CARI welcomes the announcement by the all-party Oireachtas Committee on their decision to recommend a wording for a referendum on the rights of the child.
CARI warmly welcomes the announcement by the Joint Committee of the Oireachtas on Children’s Rights to recommend a referendum wording to the government in the New Year.
As the biggest voluntary provider of specialized therapy and support to children who are of sexual abuse said CARI’s CEO Mary Flaherty today that “a referendum can help redress the huge imbalance against children in decisions affecting their safety and wellbeing. A referendum has the capacity to bring about a paradigm shift in the status of children that will gradually impact in all areas of law and child protection.”
This is an historic announcement and at least a fitting response to the year which saw in the Murphy and Ryan reports the most harrowing reality of the lives of Irish children in the context of constitution that has until now failed to vindicate their rights.” said Ms Flaherty.
Founded in 1989, CARI is Ireland’s leading voluntary provider of therapy to children who have experienced sexual abuse.
