Child Accompaniment Officer 


The CARI Foundation was established in 1989 to address the needs of children, families and groups affected by child sexual abuse, and provide a child centered specialized therapy to assist the recovery process. Amongst some of the services that CARI provides is a Child Accompaniment Support Service (CASS). The Child Accompaniment Officer (CAO) provides help to children who have to give witness testimony in criminal trials. It is the role of a CAO to help relieve some of those anxieties and fears by explaining the court procedure as well as clarifying legal terminology for the family. The CAO is also responsible for organizing pre trial visits as well as accompaniment and support throughout the trial and sentencing period.

CARI are currently looking for a Child Accompaniment Officer to join their team. This is a CE position of 19.5 hours a week. Although no experience is necessary as training will be provided the following experience is desirable:

  • An understanding of the Children’s First and Child Protection guidelines.
  • A keen interest in supporting victims through the legal system.
  • A self motivated personality.
  • A strong sense of empathy.
  • An ability to relate to people.
  • A solid understanding of boundaries.
  • Communication skills.
  • Basic understanding of computer skills and statistics.
  • Excellent record keeping.
  • Confidentiality.
